    What Do You Think About Greek Yogurt--It's becoming a "thing"

    One of the latest food trends is Greek Yogurt. It's exploding onto the yogurt market now in all sorts of brands--store brands like Safeway and big name brands like Yoplait.

    Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt and it has two times the protein. It works well in smoothies, yogurt parfaits, and in recipes.

    Have you tried one of the brands of Greek yogurt? What did you think?

    I love the nonfat vanilla greek yogurt at Trader Joe's!
    I have it every morning with fruit on top and a piece of whole grain toast. Yum. The Trader Joe's people think I am crazy, I buy 15 containers at a time, 16 oz containers.

    nope, that would be me all by myself.... :)
    A lot of the food counters don't have greek yogurt in their database, and that is really frustrating.

    I tend to like stoneyfeild farms organic yogurt it has the pro biotics .. Does greek yogurt have any good bacteria in it ?
    I have some greek yogurt on hand with fruit on the bottom it is good but I am not sure if it is as good for my digestion as the stoney field farms stuff.

    Hello everyone, have been browsing recipes and stuff. I do crafts and have been busy with that too. I am into recycling things. Mainly paper and cardboard material. I turn out pretty cool things. I belong to some craft sites.....did you ever HGTV or FaveCrafts. Some of my crafts are published there.

    Anyway, l love Greek yougurt.....I think i posted about it a while ago about a recipe that I wanted to use with Greek yogurt. The other day I was watching the Food Network channel and they were using a recipe for a salad dressing. The name escapes me all the time.....its also used for a dip.....I absolutely love it....with cucumbers. started with Tzatski.....or Any greek people out there....??

    I am not Greek, but do love Tzatziki sauce/dip. We use it with on chicken kabobs (see related discussion) . My daughter is a cucumber freak, she loves to dip her cucumbers and pita in it!

    I just have a quick question. Can activia have the opposite effect? I have been eating it for the past few weeks and i feel like it is hurting my digestive system more then helping like its supposed to. I chose to get activia (vanilla flavor) bc it had less sugar then all the other brands.

    Love the Greek Yogurt! Way tastier than normal. I like plain, or the Greek Gods brand honey sweetened kind. I thought I'd died and gone to Elysium when I first tried it! I would love to make tzatziki from it. I make imitation Greek Yogurt by draining the regular stuff.

    Yes prebiotics and probiotics can sometimes create uncomfortable symptoms. If the good bacteria is active in the intestinal tract, it's possible (I suspect) that there might be bloating and gas response in some people. It don't think it is likely to serious "hurt" your system but it might cause some uncomfortable symptoms.

    Each strain has a specific effect on the body and there are individual differences as well--so maybe the probiotic in activia is causing some uncomfortable side effects. You could switch to another yogurt with a different probiotic strain and see if there is a difference.

    Love love LOVE Greek yogurt! You can use it for anything: as a substitute for sour cream, home-made fro-yo (frozen yogurt) popsicles, mixed with honey and berries, anything! My favorite brand so far is Chobani for both the plain yogurt, as well as individual fruit-filled cups. For a good fro-yo recipe, check this out (123 calories per pop):

    2 c. plain Greek yogurt
    1/3 c. raw sugar
    18 reduced-fat vanilla wafers (or graham cracker crumbs)

    In a medium bowl, whisk together nonfat plain Greek yogurt and raw sugar until well blended; divide among 6 (3 oz) waxed-paper cups and freeze for 1 hour. Insert a wooden stick into each cup, and freeze for 2more hours. Crush (18) reduced-fat vanilla wafers (or 1/2 c. graham crackers) in a food processor until fine. Remove yogurt pops from cups and roll in cookie crumbs. Place each in a new cup; freeze until ready to eat (at least an hour).
