What are your plans for Memorial Day? Menus and more?

What does Memorial Day mean to you?

Are you planning or attending a party or BBQ?
Do you have a traditional Memorial Day menu?
Does your community host a parade or celebration to honor those who have served our country?

This weekend traditionally marks the unofficial start our our summer. We will be gathering with family and friends, planing a big BBQ.

I am looking forward to stopping at roadside stands to pick up the yummy fruits and vegetables in season. Watermelon, blueberries, tomatoes, beans .... my mouth is watering! I am impatiently awaiting the arrival of the Georgia peach in FL!

So looking forward to the coming weekend as we'll get together with our neighbors for a great Memorial Day celebration.

I plan on having grilled corn, grilled mushrooms (LOVE) and salmon on the BBQ. Yum.

Also just picked fresh blueberries, so there will be blueberry pie to finish up the meal.

And, can't forget those cold, fresh salads full of crisp greens and veggies. Sliced ripe tomatoes with just a little salt and pepper are perfect for outdoor eating.

Now I am getting hungry.

YES! We go to a friends pool every year - used to be childless and ten years later there are 1/2 dozen kids!

The menu varies but has gotten slightly healthier over the years with more non-meat choices.

I always bring my famous deviled eggs and my husband carves a watermelon in some wacky shape.

p.s. Peaches are perfectly ripe here in Southern California - now my mouth is watering

I love how we're making ourselves hungry, Suz!

Maybe it is the wrong time of day to be answering this question?

We will be going over to a friends house for a pool party, and like Suz, the kids will out number the adults!

Looking for a healthy bratwurst or sausage to grill, any suggestions? Along with squash, zucchini, onion and tomatoes.

The kids want corn and watermelon.

I am also looking forward to sipping a shandy (beer and lemonade mixed together)!

Hey all!

Just saw this great new grilling quiz on WebMD. Just in time for Memorial Day.

How did you score? I got 11 out of 15. Who knew you should leave a space between food on a kabob?
