Oatmeal tastes extra good in winter.
I'm not sure why, maybe because of the cold here in the North East, but I only eat oatmeal in the winter.

I see it on the grocery store shelf and I think, oh that would be nice and warm and delish! I do the same for soup, make it only in the winter. In fact everytime it snows I make chicken soup!

Are there things you only eat or make in the winter months?

Oatmeal is like that for me sometimes too. But I realized, as our long summer finally ended and winter set in here in the pacific northwest, that I was suddenly craving stews and meat loaf, etc. I love the smell of a good stew as it simmers away on the stove on a cold afternoon.

It works in reverse too. I don't think I've ever had a lemonade in winter.

Stews, particularly ones containing beans, are winter only foods because of the long cooking time. They sure are tasty though! Our recently devised beanless chili will probably also be a winter only food. Ceviche is a summer only food for us, because it doesn't need cooking, only refrigeration, the way we make it. I crave starch more in the winter, that's for sure. I crave sours and fruits more in the summer.

Winter time and cold weather makes me hungry for oatmeal, too!

Also chili, soups and stews.

And, bring on the hot chocolate and hot tea, along with some of the more adult hot beverages that warm you up on a cold winter's night, like mulled wine, buttered rum, and coffee Frangelico hazelnut liqueur (hot nut).
