    77% of the sodium in American Diet comes from PROCESSED food!

    People trying to lower the sodium in their diet have a tendency to focus on the amount of salt added at the table or added in recipes...and while that will definitely help, it isn't anywhere near the amount of sodium that comes from eating processed food--such as frozen entrees and snacks, bottled salad dressings, canned soups, chips, pretzels and crackers, condiments, all types of breads.

    ? 77% of the average American's sodium intake comes from
    processed food
    * Only 5% is added during cooking
    * Only 6% is added at the table
    * 12 % is naturally in foods we eat

    So what's the opposite of eating processed food?

    Eat more whole foods at home!

    This way YOU control the amount of salt and sodium added in the cooking, instead of food manufacturers and fast food chains.

    Can someone estimate how much sodium is in this daily routine: Breakfast- Quaker Oatmeal, 1 cup unsweetended AlmondMilk, Blueberries, cinnamon... Lunch- Banana... After lunch meal- 1/2 cup Black Beans with 1/2 of a whole wheat thin bun... Snack- Pineapple,Melon... Dinner- Eggs, Brococolli, Carrots, Tomato, Potato wedges.... AND NONE OF THE FOOD CONTAINS ADDED TABLE SALT (except for golden cooking wine used to cook the beans)

    Unless the beans were dried and rehydrated by you before cooking, I'm assuming canned with salt and NOT RINSED. I'd say you have about 900-1000 mg of sodium in that menu.

    WOW.. i thought it would be a little less, but Thanks! And the beans were just dried beans that comes in a bag and we cooked them in a pot with herbs, onion, garlic, peppers and the golden cooking wine, but NO Salt!

    Oh, By the way, what is the main culprit of sodium in this menu? is it the potatoes? is it the beans?

    Check the bread first, some nasty stuff hides in those little loaves of "goodness" , then the almond milk has some too. And, now that you've pointed it out, check your cooking wine also, It may not be listed as sodium on ingredients but I'd bet anything that somewhere in the process, theres something with salt in it.
    My guess was aiming high, though, because I alotted for canned beans with sodium.
    LOL got a BIG question for you though, and dont lie, the garlic and onion that you used, was it onion SALT and garlic SALT?? or just powder , or raw cut up veggie type?
    Anyway, any veggie that is grown "inground" like potatoes tend to actually absorb more elements from the soil in which they grow. Like heavy metals, copper, zinc and such and salt from natural source minerals that are in it. You can't avoid having some sodium in foods, but it's usually trace unless you live very near , say the ocean where you would get just a bit more because and get fall out from rain, water picked up from the ocean in high winds and the like.

    Oh the onions are just freshly chopped, and actually the garlic was whole cloves.. lol
