Nissen surgery? Good? Bad?

I have had most symptoms of which everyone has described with GERD. Chest pain, tightness etc, tried medication that does not aleviate all symptoms. The actual question I have is that after having multiple tests done, nissen surgery is what the Dr. recommends. I would like to hear from people who have had surgery, just to get feedback on if it works or not.
