Diarrhea in Last Trimester

I am (according to my OB) 35 weeks pregnant (37 according to my calculations) and I'm experiencing diarrhea. It just started today and it is green (lime green). Should I be worried? In the last 2 months or so, I found out that I have some gall bladder issues and will have to have it removed after the baby. The gall bladder problems cause me to not be able to hold down certain foods. On Thursday morning, I went to the hospital because I was having serious cramping like I do when my gall bladder is acting up, but once I got there I was having contractions that were 5 minutes apart. My OB stopped the contractions with medication, but he said he wouldn't next time. I've heard that diarrhea is a sign that labor is soon to come. Is this true?

It absolutely was for me in my first pregnancy, although I had it for a good 2-3 weeks before I actually went into labor. I am now 38 weeks into this one and have had diarrhea again for the last 2 weeks, so I would say that your body is beginning to prepare for delivery. Now the lime green color is not so normal, but may just be related to your gallbladder issues.

This is my first pregnancy and my mom said that with all 3 of us, she had it right (2 to 3 days) before she went into labor. Thanks.

While loose stools can be a sign of impending labor, the "lime green" color worries me. That can be a sign of a stomach virus or some other infection. Since you know you have gall bladder issues maybe the green bowel movements are related to that, I am not sure as I never had gall bladder issues. In any case, I think the green needs to be reported to your OB right away. It's probably nothing but I never had green bowel movements when I was ready to give birth to my son so it would be a red flag for me. Good luck!!
