Endometrial Ablation Side Effects

I could use some help here. I had an Endometrial ablation done in May this year. Before I had the procedure done I looked all over the web and could not find any negative things about the procedure. Everyone raved about it, almost as a cure all. Well I spot almost all month long. The only time I do not spot is for about ten days right after my period until I ovulate, then I pretty much spot until I have my period. Most of the spotting looked like old brown stuff (w/o getting to graphic.) I did not want to go on hormones, I am happy with how I am and I have been on them before and I become mean, depressed and gain weight. So this seemed like the best option. Well it has been three months and I still have a period, not as heavy but it lasts almost nine days instead of the five before the procedure. And now, when I start spotting it is heavier, bright red, almost like a small period and I continue to spot the whole rest of the month. Also, before I would always cramp in my back, had back labor w/ my 3 kids, and I know what back cramps caused by periods feel like. Well the month after I had the procedure the back cramps came back w/ a vengeance and not only is it just during the beginning of my period, it is almost all month long becoming more or less intense depending on where I am at in my cycle. Just for a quick med history, I am 34, it took me 8 years to finally have my 1st baby who came after some hormone therapy, a couple surgeries, three artificial inseminations, and three invitros. She came on the last invitro. I was told I would never get pregnant on my own, 3mo. post partum I was pregnant w/ #2 than had #3 a few years later w/o help. I don't know if it is just me, but I am sure there has to be another woman out there who is regretting the ablation. Should I try for a second time? Should I just have a hysterectomy? What are my options? Thank you for your time, Shilliams

I had an endometrial ablation 2 years ago due to excessive bleeding. I began noticing a foul odor and increased vaginal drainage this year as I began a jogging regime. I figured it had something to do with the ablation; antibiotics and probiotics do not seem to help. I am afraid it is going to be a long haul convincing a gyn to intervene. It is an overgrowth of normal bacteria; they tell me; well why is this happening? I am absolutely disgusted and do not recommend the procedure unless there is no alternative. One thing that does help the odor is the rephresh gel, lasts three days but does cause a little strange looking clumping the first day. The EA has changed my body's natural process for the worse; I have never had this problem before. I am 40 and not currently sexually active, probably never will be active again with this problem

You might have a definative option to your issue ' the amount of calories must i take in ' following your actual testing of your own body. Dietitians mostly strongly recommend a small increase or reduction in nearly Five hundred calories on a daily basis based on the preferences. There are actually More than three thousand calories in a lb. Five-hundred calories per day is just one pound every week. The volume of calories needed by people to be physically fit and proactive, will vary depending on basal rate of metabolism and the entire body mass index.

I had an ablation in 2010 and now I may have a uterine hemangioma and will need an abdominal hysterectomy. Any help would be appreciated. I've been pain free except for the last few months. I am 48 and have no kids (unable).

I am a 46 yr old and had an ablation 6 days ago. I am in no pain at all, and for 5 days it was just like a normal period. Mild cramping. Spotting only the 5 days. I had polyps in my uterus and 5 months ago, it was like I had a miscarriage. Hence the ablation. My doctor told me, 90% chance of no periods after the ablation. 60% chance of spotting now and then. 10% failure rate.
She also told me, she would only perform a hysterectomy if, and only if it were life threatening. I was glad to hear that, since a good friend of mine had one done 6 months ago, and the doctor nicked her bladder. My doctor told me that is actually common. Not only that, but after a hysterectomy, you have to have hormone treatment, due to lack of estrogen. This was my route and so far, I am happy with it. Good luck, and I hope this helps

I had a EA done on 2/18/12 and it's 4/30 a little over 2 months
ago. I am still having TERRIBLE cramps and HEAVY bleeding.
It's just like I never even had it done. My doctor says you have to give it 4 to 5 months to see if it worked. I don't see how anything is going to change if it hasn't done ANYTHING for me so far after 2 months. I am SO mad I didn't just have the hysterectomy like I wanted to but my doctor said he wanted to try the EA first. I'm just mad I went through all that and paid so much money for something that didn't even do anything for me. All i can do now is hope and pray that in 2 more months a miracle happens

I am 28 years old and my doctor has now suggested this for me I have my kids and don't plan on having anymore. It all sounds so wonderfully inviting when he explained it to me..... Now I'm really having second thoughts after reading all the comments of women suffering and it even sounds more debilitating than having to deal with it just once a month. Is there anyone out there that has had a good experience because right now it seems like there's more bad than good... Or is it because after having the procedure go good for you, you just don't think about it any more and have no need to post anything. If I do decide to get it done and it goes well or bad I will most defiantly come back and post about it. All the reviews have really opened my eyes and I will have a list of questions for my Dr. before a decision is made. Thank you

I just recently had to same surgery and was told the same thing. There will be minimal pain and cramping and take this oxycodone and rest. I was in so much pain that I had ice packs on my abdomen and the heating pad on my back. I couldn't get comfortable. I couldn't sleep. I hurt so bad. I am now on day 12 after the surgery and am still so bloated and having discharge. I wasn't expecting all this. I just hope this has all been worth it.

I'm a 49 year old who too have had an AB not once but twice. The 1st time was in 2008 it was called nova sure method. I was in a doctors office for the procedure and given a small pill to take for pain as I would be awake and a needle was injected inside uterus to numb me. I was asked if a representative for the Nova sure person could be present since this was I guess dr. 1st time? I said yes. He stayed in the door way as I did not not him to see me. I had faith in my Dr. but something went horribly wrong; While Dr. was performing the RF ablation. She was having trouble and the pain medicine wore off; This procedure was only to take 90 seconds once RF deal is inserted into my uterus. The Dr. was telling the Nova sure consultant what was happening and he was telling her what step to take; They said it was because my uterus was tipped and supposedly this was why it felt like for ever. the nurse was talking to me as the pain was worse than a toothache and labor pain tied together. The pain was so severe Have you ever seen a cow get branded? Imagine that burning pain I felt like my insides were on fire. My mother drove me home within less than 24 hrs I was in an emergency room and hospital stay for 3 day due to a high fever intense migraine which was all caused by an infection. THIS PROCEDURE DID NOT WORK. I went back to the dr. for a check a couple months later and all she could say was give it more time and that everything looked good. I till had periods, I never went back. I kept having my long heavy painful periods, with now pain where I could hardly stand up straight added , leg pain which I could not understand and lymph node pain in my left underarm. In 2010 I went to see a new Gyn and explained what happen to me. This time I felt more confident with this Dr. and felt she really understood my continued pain.I was given 3 different alternative to try I decided to try try an AB again instead of a hysterectomy this time it was a water balloon type. I was put sleep this time as I feared of that horrific pain I endured before. My Dr said the surgery took a little longer because of all the scar tissue that was built up from the previous AB Yes I had pain for 24 hr. and was given norcol for the pain. I went 1 year with no periods; I did get mood swings/craving but that was all. No more swelling of the belly/ headaches/cramping leg pain until October 2011. I started having low back and front pains that it hurt to walk this went on for about 4 days;got pain so intense that I went to an emergency room while I was checking in I was couldn't straighten up my BP was up my head was hurting. Then all of a sudden I felt gush of liquid and asked to go to the restroom, I started bleeding. long story short I had an ultrasound and I had a fibroid pinching on my cervix and a UTI infection. I bled for 5 days heavily then it stopped. I did not have another period until 3 months later in Jan of 2012. Same pain occurred only this time I took aleve and had another heavy period. I email my doctor and we are watching it for now. Yes I still have the fibroid. I still have the pain in my underarm swollen lymph nodes. There are no guarantees but I'm trying to stay positive by walking more, being more happy and having faith that one day I will be totally free of the back and leg pain, bleeding and hot flashes. My life is getting better.

ablationNO,

Thank you! I too feel as if someone has dumped a ton of bricks on my uterus! I had my novasure done as an out patient procedure in 2004. At first I thought this was the best thing ever! The procedure went smoothly, and i would spot 3 times a year for maybe 3 days at most. However the last year has been hell, I get sharp stabbing pain which turns into labor like pains with the feeling that I am carrying around a bowling ball in my abdomen. I have had 2 tranvanginal ultrasounds done and a biopsy. My obgyn informed me that I am retaining fluid within my uterus any my cervix is scarred shut. During the biopsy he drained the built up blood from my uterus, but since then it has been accumulating. The pain has been getting progressively worse, I will be having a hysterectomy the end of this month. I can hardly wait!

I really hate to see you do it! I don't bleed anymore at all and while this is great I'm realizing that heavy bleeding and clotting was the least of my troubles compared to what I suffer with now!! My whole mid section from front to back is painful. My lower stomach (pelvis) pain is so debilitating at times you can not even walk, and carries all the way thru to my lower back. I feel so bloated and my stomach feels so heavy as if you need something to hold it up and the icing for all of this is I haven't been prescribed anything that even eases any of the symptoms!!! Good luck.

My symptoms are the same. It is horrible. I wish I had been able to find out this information before I had my surgery. My uterus feels like it is going to fall out and nothing even takes the edge off. I hope that if you are thinking about this surgery, you will way the pros and cons.

In march of 2012 I had the EA done due to very heavy bleeding. I had my tubes tied in 2004, after my 3rd child. I feel my health went south after getting my tubes tied. Had to have back surgery in 2009 for a bulging disc in lower back. I'm 38 years old (feel much older). After having the EA done, my surgery went great my ob/gyn told me & he showed my pics of before & after the surgery. I didn't have the heavy cramping like most are reporting, just some as I was told there would be. (I didn't take anything for it & was not prescribled anything either). Mine was done @ a hospital (outpatient) & I was completely under for it. I don't have the severe heavy bleeding like before but I do have spotting around my menstration (need to only wear panty liner). I do however have severe breast discomfort (didn't have that before) & more than usual low back pain, approx 2 weeks before spotting. Pretty sure I have another herniated disc. I also experienced the discharge for 4 weeks, my Dr. told me no sex until that is gone (I didn't have any odor w/mine). My post op went great & everything was good. I guess I'll take the spotting over what I endured before & the breast discomfort (which subsides after 2 weeks). So all in all I guess I can say my surgery was a success. Hope this helps as you may have already had your surgery. I'm just so glad I didn't have to have a hystorectomy. Good luck & best wishes to you and all that will have this done as everyone is different!
