i;m 50 years with type 2 diabetes and had my last depo shot on 3/2010. In july i went to see my gyn dr. for another shot and refused and told me that he's not going to continue because i'm in the peri-menopause stage. I went to see my endocronolgist and she did some blood work. she emailed me to tell me that my FSH is 51.9 and that i'm menopause. I went to my yearly gyn exam and told the dr. that the last thing i want is to become pregnant, to give me lowdose birth control pills or even a tubal ligation. he told me that i don't need none of them, since i cannot get pregnant. since last April 2010 til now haven't had my period. next month will be a year, so am i fully menopause, or is it the depo shot?

Yes, you are in menopause. Your endocrinologist has confirmed this and it is likely that any effect from your last Depo shot almost a year ago wore off a while ago.

thank you so much for your response. i've read that when a women doesn't get her period for a year, that she's reached her time. Next month, April, will be a year without a period, so i guess i'm one that has reached my time, huh? you hear so many stories of women who's 50 and can get pregnant. what really counts the higher the FSH or not having a period for a year?

Both can be used to determine menopause; most women don't have an endocrinologist and likely don't have their FSH levels tested, instead relying on the absence of menstruation for a year.
