Septate or Bicornuate Uterus

I had an ultrasound done this morning to check my uterus and was told I have it looks like I may have a septate or bicornuate uterus. I am devastated. The only thing in the world that I want is to conceive a child and getting this news has broken me down so bad. I'm not sure if I should divorce my husband so he can find someone that can give him a child. I don't even know how to tell him I may not be able to give him a child. I'm so lost right now.. Has anybody ever conceived with a septate or bicornuate uterus?

While I don't know anyone who has conceived with a bicornate uterus, I know it's possible. If you do become pregnant, you will be considered high risk and will be closely monitored.

There are also degrees of bicornation (not sure if this is the right word). The best thing to do would be to talk to your doctor about your ability to conceive and carry to term.

So sorry for this news! There are success stories. Do a search for "bicornuate uterus pregnancy" in PubMed - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.

Find an ob/gyn who manages high risk pregnancies (and specifically uterine anomalies, if possible). You may be able to find one through one of the PubMed articles. An email address for the author(s) is oftentimes included. An author may be able to point you to an ob/gyn in your area.

Wishing you the best!

Also, there are a number of discussions here in WebMD about bicornuate or septate uterus. And a number of them have had babies. Just do a search on "bicornuate uterus" on this Exchange.

Thank you! I have done some research and I am feeling a little more positive.I have a doctor appointment in a few weeks to discuss and go over my ultrasound pictures. I am hoping it's not bad news.

I am having my septum uterus corrected on April 18. The doctor said I will be able to try to get pregnant in May
