I am a 26 y/o that has two children and am having a E/A in a couple of months. I have heard that if I have this done so young that I may end up having to have it done again because the lining of my uterus is still quite thick. I am also nervous about how I am going to feel afterward adn that I am going to be bleeding for a long period of time after surgery. Anybody had this done close to my age and how did it work out for you?

I had mine when I was 38, haven't had a "regular" period yet! Yipeee! My GYN did tell me that having the ablation would "buy me" about 5 years. (And then by that time would return to the heavy cycles, etc)
It worked out great for me. No bleeding, no pain. Best thing though is not having had a period in over 2 years!! I do have a bit of spotting, but it's barely anything!!
Good luck!

I am 41 years old and I had an ablation 6 months ago. It was tough @ first with the recovery..just make sure that you don't do any excessive lifting or putting any strain on your stomach. I continued to spot for a couple weeks after the surgery and then I would get my period for only a few days every month after that. Now I haven't had my period for a couple months, and let me tell you that it is definitely a relief to not having to deal with all that heavy bleeding. My periods were soo heavy before I had the ablation and I am completely satisfied with the surgery. Good Luck

I had endometrial ablation twice in the mid 1990s, and participated in a study my GYN was doing regarding the success rate. I was 38. My ablation failed because I had adenomyosis- the lining was growing into the uterine muscle. This was discovered during a hysterectomy, which followed 2 years later.. However, recover from each of the endo ablations, was about a day, mostly from the anesthesia. It was done on a Friday, and i was back to work on the following Monday. No regrets! Good luck to you.

I am 58 and had an E/A done about 20 years ago. I had absolutely no issues - no bleeding or spotting after it was done nor in the last 20 years. Good luck to you.

I had mine when I was 36 - that was 16 years ago and have had no periods or even any spotting since..... and my GYN told me 5 years too, but was successful all the way through menopause. I also didn't have any trouble with recovery - I had the procedure on a Thurs morning and was back to work on Monday. It was absolutely the best thing I ever did!!!!!

Im 48 and with onset of peri-menopause it came with heavy periods cramps and neck and back pains. I had the EA in Oct. My gym prepared me for it all. I took the ibuprofen as directed before procedure and for week and then as needed. The meds I took prior calmed me. When I got home I had weak abdominal cramping for the rest of the day but slept through it all. I took it easy the following week. Taking the meds will keep the pain away and I did not lift anything heavy. I had little spotting in January and again in April.
Good luck.

It really depends on "do you really need it". I say that because I am 42, no children, normal to short period with spotting between my period. After several tests it was found I have a thick endometrium lining and several polyps. Did a biopsy on my endometrium (good, negative) so for the polyps i was given 2 options: 1. Have a D&C to remove the polyps and/or 2. Have an endometrial ablation. I did alot of research and found that mainly (I am not a dr or in the health profession) people that should have the ablation have very off periods in some way PLUS if you have this they say do not plan to have children because this ablation damages part of your uterus thus chances of something wrong with your child are high. I chose the D&C because if this fixes my problem of light spotting between periods great, if not I will live with it and just get checked occasionally for any reaccurance of polyps. My recovery was awesome, I took only 1 pain pill (800mg Ibprofen) so I could sleep without waking up in "possible" pain. It was my first EVER surgery and I was a little scared, but it all went great and recovery was a week of spotting which is normal. I've only had one period since and no spotting afterwards. Again, I'm not sure what your circumstances are but I wanted to get this out there for you and any woman to really reconsider the ablation's, they (in my opinion) should only be done in extreme cases. I'd rather live with a little spotting between periods instead of all the time as my research has found. My estimate of women unhappy about ablations is 7 out of 10, but this is just my opinion on what I've researched. Everyone's circumstance are different. I wanted to share my experience with you and others so maybe it may help someone. I wish you all the best, it is a tough decision I know.

I had Ablation around 3 years ago I was 40, the procedure took me about 3 0r 4 days to recover and it lasted exactly 1 year. I still have a light period which lasts a couple of days but it didn't help me with pain. I found out this procedure would not work for me b/c I have fibroid tumors in the muscle of the uterus.

it was a waste of time and money

I had mine 7 years ago when I was 43.It was the best thing i ever did!I thought I needed a hysterectomy ,but the doctor suggested the ablation because it was so much easier.I was mad because I didn't think it would work.It was like a miracle!!!!

I had one in Feb, 2008. It was successful for my fibroid tumor bleeding; however, my sex drive took a serious dive.

Hope you didnt go through with this procedure,I have had labor like cramps,no bleeding since the procedure 2 yrs ago where i cry like a baby, its that bad,the doctor through me on bc and said i had a small fibroid,i have never ever had pain like this from a fibroid. These doctors dont explain nothing to you, make sure you ? him i would rather of stayed with my heavy bleeding. Now i read on the internet about post ablation syndrome, where your uteris scars shut and fills with fluid that causes the severe cramping, doctors swear that these things dont happen just like they tell you you dont gain weight from taking birth control, please, who is right thousands of woman or a handful of doctors,we know our bodies, well good luck and do your research if you still didnt go through with it,i again will be at the doctors tommorow had horrible pain today 5 asprin.2 advil and a tylenol with codene no lie did not help, and dont need problems with my stomach from all these pain meds! keep you posted!
