Cycle shorting...

I am 32. I have always had a 28 day cycle. Now It has changed and I have no idea why. In jan it was 28 days, feb and march 27, april 26 day cycle and now in may it was a 25 day cycle. What would be causing it to keep getting shorter? I am kind of stumped because I have never had any issues in this area.

Dear baylessa: A "normal" menstrual month is usually described as every 28 days. A GYN would consider cycles between 21 and 35 days all still in the normal range. The key in your specific case is that the cycles seem to be shortening up. Certainly if they drop below that" 21 days apart" mark you should see your GYN or clinic.

So what might cause that type of shortening up? There are several POSSIBLE causes:

1. Change in time of ovulation--in this instance the woman is ovulating earlier.

2. Missed ovulations--a woman can still appear to have somewhat regular cycles, but they may not be triggered by an ovulation.

3. Perimenopause--classically, shortened intervals appear in ones 40's; cycles then lengthen way out prior to actual menopause.

Hopefully your cycle will reset itself to a very predictable pattern since you have very regular cycles before. If this trend to decreased intervals continues do see a GYN.

Yours,
Jane

Hi, I am 35 and am experiencing the same thing. Every month it will get shorter and shorter. I'm at the point now where I have been bleeding since 4/29. I went to the doctor and they gave me a higher dosage pill thinking the other pills are just not working anymore now that I am older. Well I started taking the higher dosage pills and it is now 9 days later and I am still bleeding heavy. Called the doctor again and they advised me to double up on the pills. I took two yesterday and today and still bleeding heavier than ever. I have terrible cramps and besides the naseau I am experiencing right now I feel like I can't breathe very well.

Has your physician done any testing to rule out medical causes for this abnormal vaginal bleeding that have nothing to do with menstruation?
