whats with my period?

had missed my period for two months then spotted for a week. i stopped and two weeks later had a regular period (wrong date though). i stopped again and a week later without any symptoms of a period had a heavy bleed with large clots. it lasted one day and has stopped. any ideas? i am 53 yrs old and never pregnant.

It is possible that, at age, 53, at least some of this could be due to entering menopause.

However, there may be other reasons for the abnormal vaginal bleeding; issues that have nothing to do with mentruation. For example, uterine fibroids (benign growths in the uterus) can cause bleeding if they expand into blood vessels. So can more serious tumor issues.

It might not be a bad idea to make an appointment with your gynecologist in an attempt to determine what might be happening here.
