Uterine/Endometrial Cyst

I am 37 years old, had a tubal ligation & a uterine ablation in October, 2011. I started having severe cramps/pain yesterday morning. I ended up in the ER last night & was told I have cyst that has attached to my uterus. The ER doctor said he thinks it may have developed as a result of my ablation surgery. I was given pain meds in the ER & sent home with an antibiotic, just in case. I woke up this morning, feeling better but by 9 a.m., the pains started again to the point I had to go home from work. It seems like the pains are contraction like, they come every few minutes & it seems like they are getting worse. I put a call into my GYN but he is out until tomorrow so I am waiting til then to see what can be done. Is this familiar to anyone? I'd like more information as to what I'm feeling & how I can relieve the pain. Ibuprofen doesn't touch it.

Jane Harrison Hohner, RN, RNP responded:
Dear An: MULTIPLE literature sites at the National Library of Medicine site failed to yield any published data on cysts adherent to the uterus from endometrial ablation. From your GYN history I would wonder if there was some other etiology. Even the ER MD must not have been sure--otherwise they would not have prescribed antibiotics for a uterine infection. Contraction type pains can also come from the bowel or even a partial ovarian torsion.

Hopefully your GYN did more tests and imaging to see a culprit could be definitely identified.

In Concern,
Jane
