Insanely heavy period

I am at my wit's end right now. My period is so heavy that it is interfering with my work ability. I am using super plus tampons, PLUS a pad, and I can barely last an hour. I am bleeding through the tampon, sorry to be gross, like I am peeing blood. I teach, and at times, have barely three minutes between classes to run across to the next building, where the bathroom is and come back. My boss is now giving me strange looks, and I don't have enough time to properly spend with students between classes.
Please do not suggest going on the pill- it makes me violently ill, even the lightest. Believe me, I've tried. I am only 30. Is there a larger size tampon than super plus? Some dietary thing I could try? I am also in a lot of pain- feel like vomiting, not hungry, tired.

Although mine was not that bad, I did have heavy periods. It was due to the lining of my uturis being thickend. I had a balloon ablation done in the dr office. Painful after I got home, and I've gained some weight, but I don't have heavy periods anymore. Some people stop completely, I bleed for maybe 2 days and can use a small thin pad. Good luck! I hope you get it figured out!

A good article that includes reviewing various treatment methods for this:

There are menstrual cups that may be worth trying. I know some are reusable One brand is Instead (I think these are disposable).

There are non-hormonal treatments for heavy bleeding. One is tranexamic acid (Rx) and NSAID's (OTC). Here's a link that details study results (including percent improvement in flow) with these agents - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0015970/#ch8.s58

Please see your doctor. You need to find out what is causing the heavy bleeding before you can start to look for a solution.

Good luck.
