Periods after Endometrial Ablation

Hello, I had the ablation done 16 months ago and have had no periods, woo hoo! It's been awesome. But last night I started and have minor cramping. Just wondering what to expect from here. I will be 50 in just a few weeks. The reason I had the ablation was for painful cramping and overall being sick with my periods and spending up to 3 days in bed or on the couch.

Dear sandypandabear: As you may have been told, it can be difficult to eliminate every bit of uterine lining tissue. Tiny bits can remain up in the corners of the uterus. Those will continue to grow under the influence of estrogen and attempt to re-populate uterine lining inside. This is why some women may begin to have light flows again over time.

In your specific case, you should be in the transition into menopause when estrogen levels drop. So any flows should cease. If you begin to have more substantial flows or pain of increasing severity contact your GYN. Hopefully this will not be a problem for you.

Yours,
Jane

Did you have any problems? I am considering the Ablation over a partial hysterectomy. I have heard problems from people that it was not successful in stopping their periods.
