Mirena IUD change

healthconscious101 posted:
I have had my mirena IUD for five years, and my family doctor has suggested that it is time to replace it with a new one. When I first had the mirena put in, it took about a year for my body to accept the IUD and 'calm down'. I experienced long periods and spotting, as well as body acne within the first year I had the IUD, the following years it settled down, with my periods being pretty much non-existent (hooray!). I am wondering though, if my body will recognize the change to the new IUD and start freaking out again, or if it will just carry on, with infrequent periods and no spotting.

Any opinions/experiences welcome!!

If you are replacing it with another mirena there should be no adjustment period like with the first time you had one placed.

So even though the new Mirena will have more hormone, I shouldn't expect the same period adjustment I had when the first one was implanted?
