Switching Birth Control Pills

Hi, I was previously on Beyaz at the beginning of this year, but then switched to Microgestin because it was less expensive. I am at the point where I want to switch back to Beyaz. I take my last active Microgestin pill next Saturday. If I start the Beyaz next Sunday will I be immediately protected or should I use a backup method for the first seven days? Keep in mind there will be no days missed between switching packs.

Jane Harrison Hohner, RN, RNP responded:
Dear AmberElizabeth: Given that you are switching directly from Microgestin 1/20 back to Beyaz you should have uninterrupted contraceptive coverage. So go ahead and take your MIcrogestin placebo pills then start the new pack of Beyaz as planned. There is no need for a back up method.

Yours,
Jane
