Unending Period? Is this Serious?

Warning possible TMI
I am 31 have 2 kids (8 and 3) and between the 2 kids miscarried twice. I did have to have a D&C with each of the miscarriages. With each of those events my period changed slightly but had a regular pattern. When I first started my period it would last 8-9 days with 4-5 heavy flow days. After each pregnancy it got shorter and lighter. My new normal for 3 yrs has been about 5 days with 1 heavy flow and 1 med flow days, the rest is light.
My last period started on July 29. It seemed normal. I had sex after I thought it was over and started bleeding again. This has happened before but I only bleed for 1 more day and then it stops again. This time it hasn't stopped. The flow is bright red and not much. Not even enough to fill a liner a day. It shows no sign of stopping.
I stopped using birth control after meeting my husband (over 10yrs. ago), we use the withdraw method and it has worked just fine all my pregnancies were intended.
I called a gyno to make an appt and was told by a staff member "the drs don't usually see someone for a 2 week period because it could be any number of things but I can schedule you for a yearly exam" I scheduled the appt but that isn't till Sept 18th. My hormones feel out of wack, I cried when I got off the phone for no real reason (because I couldn't get an appt? I don't know). My hormones haven't been this wacky since I was pregnant. I was told if the bleeding is more than a pad an hour to go to the ER. I realize I am not bleeding enough to be anemic, but this is NOT normal for me and it feels like something is not right.
I am frustrated to be put off the way I was. Should I try to see a different dr? I realize this may be minor but I just can't shake the feeling that something isn't right.
Please help me.

Listen to your intuition. If you feel something isn't right, it probably isn't. Yes, try and see a different doctor.
