Had an ablation 3 months ago and no bleeding now I'm starting to have a black discharge and bleeding. This is my second time for 3 days each time. What gives.

Jane Harrison Hohner, RN, RNP responded:
Dear BeautifulBuffalo: It MIGHT be that this is your "new" period. Black discharge often indicates scant bleeding--as when nearly all the lining of the uterus is gone. It MIGHT also be the uterus sloughing off the residual destroyed lining and you will become completely without bleeding henceforth.

I would urge you to contact the GYN who did your procedure (as they know what type of ablation was done and if anything in your uterine contours presented some difficulty). They can give you the most reliable answer.

Yours,
Jane
