Could I be Pregnant?

So here is the deal. I had a normal period from June 17th -June 22nd. Then on July 12th I had lite bleeding after intercourse for not even a day. 2 days later I had on and off pain in my left ovary. So bad I went to the doctor and she said it could have been a cyst. So I asked her if my period would come on and she said yes. So on Aug 8th I had this brown/orangish musus come out of the me, it was the size of a nickel. then I had just one spot of blood and the very next day spotting also. then the next day there was nothing. It is now Aug. 27th and my period still has not come on. I also have been taking pregnancy tests and they have all come back negative. what is wrong?

Dear JHanse: Given your multiple negative pregnancy tests and current erratic bleeding pattern my best GUESS is that you have not resumed regular ovulations. As you may have read, there can be MANY causes for not ovulating:low thyroid, pituitary problems, ovarian cysts, physical stressors (eg sudden increases in exercise, crash dieting), emotional stressors (problems with boyfriends/girlfriends, finances), increased body weight, anorexia, rotating shifts at work, etc.

That the GYN thought you might have had an ovarian cyst in mid-July could indicate that a cyst is still present. Alternatively a cyst could have ruptured but you have not yet resumed regular hormonal patterns.

I would urge you to return to your GYN or clinic for a repeat pelvic exam to check for ovarian tenderness or enlargement. An in office ultrasound can often visualize an ovarian cyst. If they do not see a cyst they can help sort out the exact cause of the delayed flows.

Yours,
Jane
