Chronic Constipation

shellie92 posted:
I am 20 years old and have had constipation my whole life. I have gone through countless tests in the last 6 months trying to get a diagnosis. I seem to be abnormal in every aspect of testing. Nothing is being confirmed, but things are coming back with strange results. I am finally meeting with a rectal surgeon in October, but it is getting harder and harder to press on with all of this. If anyone has any input as to what might help please let me know.

Dear shellie: I hope someone who has had a personal experience with this problem will write you a reply. You mentioned that you have had abnormal results on various bowel tests. It would seem likely that other causes of constipation (eg hypothyroid) have been ruled out as well.

You are doing the right thing in seeing a GI specialist for the most expert opinion and treatment. As you get more information (or would be willing to share test results) could you kindly write us back? Your excellent subject line will bring other women searching the internet about similar symptoms to your posts.

Sincerely,
Jane
