3 mo with no Period, Hypothyroidism, and an Enlarged Uterus!

It has been over three months since my last period, I just got labwork back saying that my TSH levels are at 7.5 or so, and during the pelvic exam, I was told I have an enlarged uterus.

I am 33 and have two children. I discovered my hypothyroidism during my second pregnancy, but it seemed to have gone away...until now.

My doctor has ordered an ultrasound, more bloodwork to test other hormone levels, and a panel for my thyroid levels. These will be done this next week, but in the mean time I am doing some of my own research to no clear-cut answers.

As I research online, it is freaking me out a bit. It seems the one thing that ties these together is pituitary tumors. I am not sure that there is any correlation between an enlarged uterus and pituitary tumors though.

Any thoughts?

An enlarged uterus isn't all that uncommon and usually isn't anything that requires treatment. A friend of mine was told she had an enlarged uterus and her gynecologist wanted to do exploratory surgery to determine the cause. I don't know what other tests (if any) were done. She changed doctors and her new one did an exam and told her a slightly enlarged uterus is common and she didn't need to be concerned.

The upper limit for TSH is usually 4.0 or 5.0 so 7.5 is clearly indicating hypothyroidism as you stated. This can cause menstrual cycle problems. There's a lot of interplay between sex (ovarian) and thyroid hormones so the hormonal changes during and after pregnancy can disrupt the endocrine system. TSH secreting pituitary tumors are rare so it's not likely this is the cause of the elevated TSH.

Thank you, that helps relieve some of my fears. It's just that hypothyroidism seems to be related more with heavy bleeding, not lack of bleeding. I think that is where my big hang up is. That, and that I had a pap 6 months ago with the same OBGYN and my uterus was not enlarged. This all seems to be coming together at the same time, and it is freaking me out a bit. All the research on 3 months without a period is what is worrying me the most, I think. Thank you for aleviating some of my fears though. I guess I will just have to wait for my tests and results to fully ease my mind.
