YAZ - missed 4 pills HELP

lisahaag posted:
I am going into the second month of taking Yaz contraceptive pill. I forgot that the placebo period is so short and subsequently forgot to start taking the active pills on Wednesday. It is now Saturday. I am therefore 4 days late in starting my second pack. Do I take two pills a day until I get back on track? Or do I just take saturday's pill today - but then what do I do about the 3 missed pills? Do I just right them off and throw them away? Help!!!

Jane Harrison Hohner, RN, RNP responded:
Dear lisahaag: Here is what the package literature suggests:

If you miss three active pills in a row in Week 1, 2, or 3, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack on the same day if you are a Day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack that day.

LIsa, you could also consider doing a restart on Saturday (you will then become a Saturday starter thereafter). This would be considered as using the "Quick Start Regimen". To do "Quick Start" one first has to be assured that they are not pregnant. The birth control pills (BCPs) can be started at anytime but must be followed by a seven day usage of a reliable back up method. If there has been any unprotected sex since being off the Yaz active pills one needs to do a pregnancy test two weeks after starting the "Quick Start" regimen.

As always it is best to consult with the GYN or clinic who wrote your prescription. Do that Monday morning.

Yours,
Jane
