Jane Harrison Hohner, RN, RNP responded:
Dear An:If your flow ended on 8/21 I am assuming that the first day of your last period was perhaps 8/14 or so. Hope I am tracking you correctly. If that is right then probable day of ovulation would have been about 8/28. Your erratic spotting started 9/6.

There are several POSSIBLE explanations:

1. Implantation bleeding

2. An ovarian cyst

3. Late luteal phase spotting from less than normal amounts of progesterone produced after August's ovulation.

I would urge you to do a sensitive pregnancy test on the first day of a missed period then repeat it in seven days to confirm/rule out a pregnancy. If the pain escalates significantly (eg ovarian cyst) consult your OB/GYN. ...Hope you conceive promptly and have a health delivery.

Yours,
Jane
