Nervous about period change

My period started to night and it has me concerned. My flow is normally heavy, but the blood is thick and dark. Tonight, it is bright red and I have soak three pair of underwear, my pj bottoms, three pads and my sheets. Whenever I move, it gushes out. While cleaning myself up, it dripped puddles onto the bathroom floor. Could this be a sign of the onset of menopause? I'm 44. I've also experience an almost watery discharge for seemingly no reason a few times.

Heavy bleeding like that is not normal and needs to be checked out ASAP. If your doctor is not open, go to the ER.
