Pre menopausal period.

I am 52 years old and my periods are on and off. after several months of no period I recently woke up and saw very dark brown blood after not having period for several months. A month prior to this, I had an appendectomy. Is this normal for premenopause?

You're at the age when most women's periods stop altogether. It is definitely normal for periods to be erratic during the time leading up to menopause (which can take years). Anything goes at this time - missed periods, more frequent periods, heavier bleeding, lighter bleeding - you name it. You aren't considered menopausal until you've gone a full year without a period.
