I am 49 almost 50 years old. I stoped menstrating for a year. I've gone through hotflashes, night sweats and then they ceased. Out of nowhere I get a regular period that lasted 5 days. Is this normal?

Nope, not normal. You need to see your doctor.

It's recommended that any post-menopausal bleeding be investigated. However, it's not all that uncommon for women to have an episode(s) of bleeding after going a full year without any. This doesn't always indicate a problem but, again, it should be investigated. It could just be some ovarian activity going on especially since it hasn't been much over the one year mark.
