Vagina redness and itchiness

I have been having vaginal itchiness and redness for about 2 weeks now. When the symptoms first started it was really red around the vagina and down to beginning of my buttocks. it burned it water, soap, or urine touched it. Four days after the symptoms first appeared i went to see my gynecologists and she did a herpes culture and tested for all other STDS, as well as tested for yeast infection. All tests came back negative. The redness around to my buttocks disappeared quickly and it no longer hurts if touched but the itchiness around the vagina and slight redness is still there (can be from me scratching). I have not had any ulcers or sores, just the itchiness and redness. What could it be? Could my herpes culture been a false negative? Was my test not done quick enough?
