bleeding after hysterectomy 2 years later?
3boyshappy posted:
So I had a hysterectomy July 11,2012. All I have left is my ovaries. I also had a sling put in for my bladder last year. Today, I started bleeding. It is a brownish red color. Has this happened to anyone before?

Bleeding two years after a hysterectomy is not normal and needs to be checked out by a doctor.

If you still have your cervix, the residual uterine tissue can cause bleeding. Some women continue to have mini periods if they kept their cervix. Some other causes that come to mind are endometriosis on the vaginal cuff, vaginal cuff / suture dehiscence (tear), or even vaginal atrophy. I don't know if mesh erosion (which can occur from bladder slings) would cause bleeding.

Let us know what you find out after seeing a doctor.

No cervix..just ovaries. Turns out it was from the sling from October 2013. The doctor said sometimes it starts to pull but he checked mine & said it is still in tact. No big issues.

Interesting - never heard of the sling causing bleeding unless the material is eroding into vaginal tissues. My bladder feels like it has fallen since having a hysterectomy and I am petrified of surgery.

The doc checked it out & it is still fine & in place. It is the best thing that I did after my hysterectomy. I couldn't even laugh a little with out leaking. And forget it if I got a cough. I was miserable. Right before I had the surgery I read so much bad stuff I was scared. I told my doc what I had read but he said he has never had anyone have issues like that. He has been doing this for 30 years or so . He has been my gyn/ob since I was 20. He delivered all 3 of my kids. He is a board certified surgeon. I am really glad I did it. He said it should last 15-20 years. I'm good! I am only 38.
