Chunky period

For the last couple of days been having my period, usually they are mild with minimal amount of pain or bleeding but this time it's both with rather large clots by the looks of it which I have never experienced before... Help!

A menstrual period is not just bleeding; it is the sloughing off of the uterine lining which is not needed since pregnancy did not occur during that cycle. What looks like clots are pieces of this lining.
