Can anything be done to relieve the extreme fatigue caused by coronary artery disease. This sympton of CAD can be worse than death itself.

Hi:

More often than not, fatigue (which also has various non-cardiac causes, including anemia, hypothyroidism, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and even depression) can be relieved or reduced to some degree by addressing specific factors and conditions (and taking the necessary action/treating it accordingly), such as side effects from some cardiovasular prescription drugs (which can make blood pressure and/or heart rate become too low), and the patient's left ventricular ejection fraction (**LVEF), as well as possibly (if deemed applicable) requiring interventional procedures such as angioplasty/stenting or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Some individuals who have a low (moderate) or a really low (severe) LVEF feel fine and function well, while others do not.

Most important
, coronary artery disease (CAD) is a lifelong unpredictable (can exhibit periods of stabilization, acceleration, and even some regression) condition, requiring a continuum of care, as well as good doctor-patient/patient-doctor communication and understanding at ALL times.

James Beckerman, MD, FACC responded:
People with CAD may have fatigue for a number of reasons...

Some people experience fatigue as another symptom of angina, or decreased oxygen/blood flow to the heart muscle itself.

Some people with coronary artery disease have reduced heart function - this may cause symptoms like fatigue or shortness of breath.

And some people with CAD take medications that could have side effects of fatigue - beta blockers like metoprolol or atenolol are common ones.

I'd suggest you talk with your doctor about these symptoms and explore them further. Take care.
