New US Diet Guidelines: What Not to Eat
Instead of just giving Americans a list of healthy food choices, the federal government takes a stab at showing us what not to eat. Get the facts here.

I am looking for some information from someone who has had the Lvad implanted. The Dr. has told my dad he is a candidate for such a device. He has had 4 separate open heart surgeries over the years and his heart function is now less than 30 percent. We have a lot of questions and won't be seeing the Dr. for another month. If you could answer some of our questions, it would be so helpful. Thanks, lrae2003

Hi Lrae:

Please be sure to check out Transplant Buddies.

Heart/Heart-Lung Forum

A good friend of mine Tom Emahiser posts there. His member
name is Rocketheart583. He's very knowledgeable and had an left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implanted before he got a heart transplant.

In general here, marvelous medical technology such as this may/can really help. And as reported in the worldwide media and various medical literature, some cardiac patients, who were extremely ill, and who had an LVAD (heart pump) implanted, were able to stay alive long enough until a heart became available, or were able to avoid a heart transplant completely, as being on an LVAD (and then having it explanted/removed) helped to reverse some of the damage done to the heart, allowing one to live as near a normal life as humanly possible.

Best of luck to your dad down the road of life,

Taker care,
