My doctor put me on Warfarin (generic for Coumadin) after I had a stroke two years ago. Warfarin is not expensive and I've had no adverse reactions since I started taking it. I have to have a protime test every month, but that's not a problem for me.

As some patients know, and to avoid frequent trips to the doctor for PT/INR testing, they can self-test at home.
