Today, focus on eating foods rich in fiber--particularly soluble fiber, which will help reduce your cholesterol, both total and LDL. The fiber forms a gel in the digestive system that interferes with cholesterol absorption, and helps you get the stuff out of your system. Most people know about the cholesterol-lowering ability of oatmeal and oat bran because they've seen the ads on TV. But so many other foods are good sources of soluble fiber: barley, rice bran, lentils, peas, beans (such as navy and pinto beans), fresh fruit (such as apples, oranges, strawberries and prunes) and vegetables (such as carrots, corn and broccoli). Try to eat foods rich in soluble fiber every day.

I'm making my grocery list now and your mention of lentils reminded me that I want to try this recipe: Chickpea, Lentil and Vegetable Stew Well, I want my HUSBAND to make it

I never would have thought of that "old person" fruit as heart healthy but it makes sense.
