Why anti-oxidants ?

DeadManWalking56 posted:
Anti-oxidants prevent neutral, energy providing LDL from being transformed into oxidized LDL, which is drawn into blockages in artery walls, further damaging the artery and increasing blockage size over time. As blockages grow, the possibility of heart attacks, or arterial spasms blocking off blood flow temporarily increase. Angina can feel like a pin in your heart, or like your whole heart is clamped in a vise. Either way, you will want it to go away.

I have so many small blockages, that small changes in my diet make a difference every day. As I decrease or increase my anti-oxidant intake, I get more or less minor angina incidents. When I have some every couple hours, I may not have any angina at all for days or even weeks at a time.

So learn about anti-oxidants, and try to make some part of every meal, and perhaps even between meals, depending on your heart disease.

What are your sources for getting enough anti-oxidants? Just curious.

Sources ?

Do you mean information on them ?
I have gotten some information off of federal nutrition databases, other information from www.pubmed.com research studies, and other lists of foods and their nutrition content.

Or actual anti-oxidants ?
Green tea, pomegranate tea, pomegranate juice, cranberry tea, berries, dark chocolate, dark raisins, salad greens, plums, prunes, tomatoes, citrus fruit. Spices and herbs. If it is from a plant, it has some.

Or enough ?
I don't know how much is enough. I just know that if one has enough, that LDL oxidation may be 100% prevented for that day. With my LDL low, under 70 (it used to be under 60), I don't need as much as someone whose LDL is 270, or 170.
