i am a registered nurse in texas, i have a 93 year old male patient with numerous cardiac diagnosis, prostate ca, iron def anemia, ^cholesterol, chf, htn, pvc, long-term use anticoagulent therapy, arthritisdepression, hypo-thyroid, & macular degeneration. (just to list a few) the dr has ordered several lab tests to be done and u am familiar with them all except: 1. ANA by IFA AND 2. SEDRATE. now i think...sedrate measures inflamation in the body??? am i right? so the arthritis diagnosis (looking for ICD-9 codes) shoul pass for the labs diagnosis so that medicare will pay for his bloodwork. PLEASE HELP!! i have NO IDEA ABOUT #1. above! AWAITING YOUR RESPONSES!!

He's 93. With that many problems, should he just rest quietly with family, wait out his days ?

Or if he wants to fix what he can, someone there needs to be doing all this research. What's his diet ? Can he walk ?

If confined to bed and chairs, then the lack of movement will prevent the body's natural anti-inflammatories from helping, and the natural anti-depressives from having an effect.

I suspect I'll be content with a good book, or audio book and some music at that age if I'm not pushing daisies yet.
