I just had a follow up visit with my Gastrointerologist about my biopsy results. I have not begun treatment yet because she and I thought it was best to wait until after the holidays. She told me that the new drug that was appoved to treat Hep c was not an option for me because it was mostly for people who have failed to respond to the ribavirin and interferon alone. Is this true?

Also, she said my biopsy revealed "some scarring" and she mentioned cirrhosis. But she said "you have 20 to 30 years before you have to worry about that".....what does that mean? I am 30 years old now. Will I have full blown cirrhosis by then? I have seen what severe liver disease does to people. My father died of it last year and I was just diagnosed in September. I am scared to death. I feel like all my dreams are shot. I don't have any kids and I;m not married. I feel like it will never happen now...I don't know what to do to help myself or if there is anything I can do to help myself.

Krista, sorry to hear about your traumatic experience. I too have seen a friend die from liver failure. It's not something I will forget. I am also diagnosed with hep c & my doc is checking on some more of my blood work to make sure treatment is ok. I would recommend either going back to your doc with a list of questions for her to clearly answer or maybe you could find a hepatologist who specializes in liver treatment. I will add you to my prayers.
