I'm in my last week of Telprevir (you have to take it for 12 weeks). Along with Ribavarin and Peg Interferon (you take these 2 for an additional 3 months - if you are responder/relapser, to which I am. You will probably have to do it for a year being a non-responder. i too am geo type 1a.
The side effects of the Telprevir that effect me most are: rashes, burning/itching anus, nausea. My doctor found suppositories made with hydrocortisone and lainicane that can be purchased and help alot.
the Ribavarin main side effect is fatigue - but to the extreme. 12 years ago when I did the ribavarin and Interferon I worked through it, missing only one day a week. This time with the addition of the teleprevir and because i could afford it, I've chosen to be off work the hole time. The doctor has said that i have the least side affects of all on this regime. I've been able to swim half a mile about 3 times a week and play disc golf, ride bikes, walk...but sometimes the side affects just keep me in bed.
The good news is the virus was non-detected on the very first PCR blood test and remains so! So it looks like I will clear the virus this time! How can you not give this regime a chance! It's better than waiting for the liver to be so damaged via cerrosis or cancer that you need a liver transplant!

I was told a year ago the same results that you had on the 2 drug program.The virus went into remission.I have recently started the 3 drig program with Incivec.I do not see any hope.The Incivec only stops the virus from multiplying.I need as a cronic hep c patient a drug to drastically go and locate all of the virus and destroy it,not let the virus go into remission.I will continue with the 3 drug program for 12 weeks and if the blood test results are the same as the 2 drug program, I will possibly quit.

Do have hope. Yes the Incebik stops the virus from multiplying while the Ribavarin gobbles up the existing virus. So the thought is once you get the virus to stop multiplying and the existing virus eaten up with the help of Interferon to boost the immune system the results have been good

He predicts the side effects of this triple therapy (I think just the Incevik alone) is so unPleasant that doctors won't offer to treat patients and wait for the next set of drugs
Have u started treatment yet?

You are right, I will try this....I guess I'm finding it difficult right now, I feel better than I have in years, fitness is very good and I have 6 races booked for 2012....but!!!! I really do have to look at the big picture, believe me you have helped me with that!!
