chronic hepatitus antigen-recent inflamation

dave43 posted:
As a result of a blood to blood transfer during an altercation in prison (I was a correctional officer) I tested positive for Hepatitus B antigen. I have kept close eye on liver enzymes and bilirubin levels and just last week they have increased greatly with dark urine, fatigue and so forth. When I was first tested by my departments C.I.D. (communicable/infectious diseases) I was sent to a specialist who advised me that the hep-b was in "remission" and to watch closely. My GP Dr. did blood testing and advised me to see the aforementioned specialist ASAP. I have been advised by medical professional that when it went "active" interferon would be used but I don't think my insurance will cover enough for me to afford this option. Therefore, how long can I expect to survive before end stage liver failure? My wife and I need to make appropriate plans. Any estimates would be appreciated.
Thank you all and God Bless you.
