Liver Friendly Mood Stabilizers and Antidepressants?

angie21837 posted:
Hello,
My friend is Dx as having Hep C and HIV. He recently had been having liver pains and as recommended by his Dr he stopped taking his antidepressant and mood stabilizer. His liver pains have since stopped. My question is: Does anyone know any lists of liver friendly antidepressants and mood stabilizers? I have found a little about liver-easy antidepressants and the information I found said Lexapro should be a good one. What about mood stabilizers?

Thanks for any help...

Melissa Palmer, MD responded:
Typically the SSRI's such as Lexapro and Celexa, have been found to be safe for the liver. Xanax and Buspar are also safe to manage anxiety for those with liver disease. Feel free to refer to my website www.liverdisease.com which details this subject.
