Grapefruit Juice-Simple

tucsondee posted:
There has been a study at the Boston MA Hospital about pure and simple grapefruit juice. It WORKS!!!!! I have been on 3 txs including Infergen, viral load went to 60 but enzyme levels never went normal.Last tx was almost 2 yrs. Could not kick it. Geno type 1A. I read about grapefruit juice and I started to drink it every morning. My enzyme levels after 6 months of starting have been normal. My viral load after tx went back up to 15,000,000. Last blood test it is 1,500,000. My dr has even released me to my primary care dr. I use natural not from concentrate in the refridg section of the grocery store. I have now also been eating a grapefruit a day before bed. It give me hope. I lost a kidney last yr, I suspect from the tx. I hope this helps many of you, that have only hope left.

Interesting for sure....but as far as they know now ( I think ) the only way to get rid of the viral load is tx....but anything is worth a try for sure...some should not take grapefruit juice because it could interfere with other meds they are on..

in the 90s there were no tests for genotyping nor were PCRs used. I know because that is when I was first diagnosed with HCV. Twice my enzymes normalized and I was declared cured. We now know that the levels are only indicators of liver health, not viral load. Grapefruit juice is masking your true enzyme levels, and had no effect on your viral load. This is dangerous advice and should not be followed.

Should some not drink grapefruit (or for that matter any other acidic juice) because of how it would interact with the meds in the stomach? If that isn't it, what is the reason?

FWIW, I have read that lemon juice is very good for your liver. Anything that helps my liver get back to as close to where it should be as possible without doing harm sounds like a good idea to me.

Hi - I'm new here so I will be asking a lot of newbie questions. How does grapefruit juice mask enzyme levels?

Interesting- My Husband & I coincidentaly found a vacant house on our block that has a tree full of wonderful grapefruits. We have shared 1 for the past 3 days. My fatigue and pain level upon waking next to nothing. BUT, I have also in the past 2 nights drank 12 oz of Pedylite before I go to bed and now I can say I think, I could be getting a double dose of help.

This is the study about the grapefruit juice. I am telling you that it worked very well to keep me in remission. The reason I had to stop is because I became pre-diabetic and can not handle all the sugar. I am thinking of drinking it again, just not as much. Getting ready to do the 3 med tx. With Incivek added to interferon and riboviron.

grapefruit juice is NOT a treatment for hep c - if it worked millions would be on it and interferon would be ancient history (like the info about grapefruit - its been 4 years since this was found out ) - however this is NOT the case -grapefruit juice may help liver function and may help keep viral loads from running rampant - but it may not - meds should not be taken with grapefruit juice because it can greatly increase the intended action
