Worried about daughter!

I was using a public restroom while my 2 year old daughter was behind me. I thought she was gonna flush the toilet like she usually does and I stood up, turned around and looked at her and she had a used tampon applicator in her mouth! There wasn't a whole lot of blood on it, like a woman usually has at the end of her period and the blood wasn't red. I'm freaking out here, what's the risk, should I get her checked?

There is no risk for HIV from this encounter, although the gross out factor is certainly off the meter on this one!

Why no risk from HIV?

1. There is no evidence that this came from someone who was HIV positive.
2. HIV is an extremely delicate virus outside of the body. Once the medium it is in (i.e., blood, sexual fluids) dries, the virus dies.
3. Simply placing blood in the mouth does not transmit the virus. Your daughter would have had to have an open (i.e., bleeding) wound in her mouth and the blood on the applicator would have had to be fresh (i.e., liquid) for there to be even a risk of transmission.

These little ones certainly are curious, aren't they!
