unprottected oral sex

I received unprotected oral sex from a brothel prostitute in Berlin 6 days ago. This is a one time thing. I did not notice any visible bleeding or sores in her mouth area. I am a happily married man and feel gulity and scared because of this. Please help me understand my risk level and what testing I should do. Thanks.

The estimated per act risk from unprotected oral sex (both receiving and giving) is .5 to 1 per 10,000 exposures with a source known to carry the virus.

Your risk would be less since you cannot confirm your partners status.

If you remain concerned over this very, very small risk, consider an HIV screening test at the 90 day mark.

Thank you. Couple more questions:

1. Is testing medically necessary or for my peace of mind?

2. can I have unprotected sex with my wife?

Again, I am very gulity, upset and scared. Your advice means a lot. Thanks.

1. More for peace of mind than for any risk. Often those who feel guilty and scared over an event (even one that carries an extremely low risk) find that getting tested and getting that nice big negative test results helps to put all of this behind them.

2. Yes you can have unprotected sex with your wife.

It's also important to understand the risk (extremely, extremely low) versus perhaps the idea (based on guilt) that your punishment for straying outside your marriage "must" be getting infected with HIV.

OK, I appreciate the response. You're right; I am overcome with guilt but I will try to move on. If I test, what timeframe do you recommend? What's the earliest you recommend. I've read 3 monthis is best but is there any test that can get me a reliable result sooner? Do I need a 6 month test as well?

The recommendation is to test at 90 days. There is no need for further testing.
