Hello,

I am usually very careful but i made a mistake last week. i saw an escort. It started off as her giving me unprotected oral sex (got a blowjob) for about 30 seconds..then we had protected intercourse.....for about 5ish minutes...then i took the condom off and she performed oral sex on me again until i ejaculated (not in her mouth)....i am afraid i got HIV from this encounter can someone help? i don't really have any cuts/sores on my penis (not that i know off) and i don't think she had any in her mouth (nothing that i saw..but you never know)....this happened about a week ago and i have a doctors appt in a few days to discuss this matter further....i don't know anything about the girl..just that i regret the incident ever happened and its gonna suck to wait 3 months to know for sure...can i get some of ya'lls thoughts?

Oral sex carries an extemely low risk of HIV transmission.

The estimated risk from unprotected oral sex is .5 to 1 per 10,000 exposures with a source KNOWN to carry the virus. Your risk would be less since you cannot confirm your partners status.

Your risk from protectect intercourse (assuming the condom was used accurately and did not break or tear) is zero (assuming your partner was positive). The virus cannot cross an intact latex barrier.

This extremely low risk from the oral sex should provide you with some comfort regarding your concern over this event.

thanks for the response gail...couple of follow up questions..

1. its been a week exactly and few days ago i got just a tinyy sore throat..not sure if that is related to last weeks incident or not...no fever..no lymph nodes swelling anywhere...do all those symptoms have to happen at once for me to worry about? or can i get symptoms sporaddically?

2. as far as i know the condom was fine...lets assume if it had a rip on it...would a small rip turn into something big while penetration? since it is latex..? what im asking is..if it ripped..would it be very noticeable???

1. We do not attempt to diagnose HIV by symptoms; only by risk. Again, if you believe the statistics I wrote pose a risk to you then testing is what you need to consider. However, most would not consider HIV testing to be necessary in this event.

2. It would be very difficult to miss a rip in a condom while wearing it.
