Stressed out - early symptom question- Rash
An_253427 posted:
About 3 weeks ago I had a questionable encounter. I notice a rash/ dark redness on my neck and chest today. I have no other symptoms, no fever, no cough, no cold sweats or sores. Is this reason for concern? Should the rash be accompanied by other symptoms? Could this be anxiety related? I have really been a wreck since day one.

Very nervous!

Thank you for the advice/input in advance.

Again, we do not attempt to diagnose HIV by symptoms. Only by risk.

You mention a questionable encounter. What you mean by this?

An_253427 replied to georgiagail's response:
Sex with complete stranger. Drunk and used condom, not sure how careful I was taking it off. I could just use some education on the rash and symptoms that come with it for peace of mind. I am getting an early DNA test Monday
georgiagail replied to An_253427's response:
The first stage of HIV is known as ARS (Acute Retroviral Syndrome); it is when the immune system first becomes aware that a foreign substance (i.e., the virus) has entered the body.

The immune systems reaction is to come up with what has described as very classic "flu like symptoms", exactly like the "regular" flu. These occur two to six weeks after the initial transmission.
