I'm a 21 year old African American female and I have high blood pressure. How can I get rid of highblood pressure without taking any medications and without harming myself?

Hi mcclain2014,

It is best to speak with your doctor first to get his/her professional opinion on what you need to be doing to lower your blood pressure, but you might try implementing the DASH Diet to help you get your blood pressure down. This slideshow outlines the foods that you should eat and those you should avoid, as well as tips on getting started. Please let us know how you are doing!

Best wishes,

In addition to diet losing weight, if needed, and regular exercise help control BP.

Also it seems that there some indication that low vit D levels increase BP. And African American's are more prone to low vit D levels.

Ask your doctor about getting your level checked.

I have low Vitamin D and take a supplement from Whole Foods which has brought it up to the proper range.
