have never really been dignoised w/ibs.i have seen several dr's.and they each said someting different,it could be chron's or ibs..i have had at least 7 colonoscopys over the last 6yrs.and have had a polyp removed in the last colonoscopy.which was 2yrs ago.well 6wks ago my grandson came home from school with a tummy virus.everyone in our home got it,they each had it for maybe a week.i still have it.i went to the emergeny room last week, because everty thing i eat or drink started to go right through me,and i was also passing blood.they did do bllod work, urine test and stool test.they said my white blood cell count was high, and gave me antibiotics to take for 10days,they said i should feel better in about 5 days.i still have diherra,i am on a blan diet.and i also still have bllod in my stool.i am scared.i am trying to get health insurance right now.so i can go to the dr in the next wk or two.i stomach looks like i am pregnant.and it should not,its normally very flat.could this all be from ibs?

Pretty sure that is not IBS. High white blood count means infection. Is it possible everyone in your home ATE the same food and this is a bacterial illness instead of a virus that your grandson passed along?

Blood in the stool is not IBS- unless it is from hemorrhoides which it doesnt sound like. Did the keep you in the ER? What did the stool tests show? It sounds like possible E Coli, though I am certainly NOT an expert on stool parisites and infections.

Granted us peoples with bad tummys can take longer to recover from GI illnesses/viruses.. I am worried about the blood for you and the fact that this has lasted over a month and a half! Are you vomiting? I am sorry, hang in there, that sounds miserable.

PS- Stay hydrated as best you can with pedialyte, gatorade, etc. Pedialyte makes ice pops for kids which are useful for adults when we are super sick. They are bland, fruit flavored. Or Pedialyte makes a drink that has no flavor if that is all you can handle. Also, stick to a very bland diet, toast, tea, white rice, plain pasta, bananas, applesauce etc.

Well it sounds like you are taking care of yourself. I DEFINITELY think you need to see a doctor. I am glad the stool is starting to form, but passing purely blood and mucus is not IBS.

Good luck and let us know how it goes w/insurance etc.

At least you got antibiotics for your high white blood cell count! I went in last Aug. Pain, vomitting, blood in stool, praying to the porcelain god, dehydrated. Emergency room the gave me fludis sent me home. Next morning back in there dehydrated again and then I refused to go home. So they did MRI and Cat Scan all they could see was my pancreas was slightly enlarged. That was a year ago not one has ever followed up on it. Since then they have struggled to get my blood pressure under control first and foremost, I had colonoscopy diverticulosis result, then Endoscopy showed severe gastritis, still pain so Gastro spec says pulled abdomen muscle from wall something called myofacial and puts me to Physical Therapy and then to pain clinic with Lyrica. Seems as long as drugs can control pain they don't seem to care to help with diagnosis to heal the cause! I have found the Great Taste No Pain Diet has help tremendously. Also have been diagnosed lactose intolerant and IBS. I guess this all comes with age. Although since a teen I have struggled with digestive problems. All I can advise is even with all this exercise and the diet plan Great Taste No Pain has been a huge help. If they seem to put you on the shelf with the rest of us try the exercise and diet.

Renny, Someone from medhelp.com told me to contact you. I have IBS and recovering from colon cancer, have heavy metals and suspect chronic lyme. Is the gastro stuff related to Lyme's for you? Thanks, bartmelly

Renny1985 replied to bartmelly's response:
wait, how did someone from medhelp.com tell you to contact me!? I am not even on medhelp lol.

Anyways, I am not sure yet.. but I am hoping that the GI stuff is related to the lyme. I was diagnosed with lyme in April but have had GI symptoms for 7 yrs. I have had millions of tests that show things are not quite right, but no doc has been able to figure it out.

I am glad to hear you are doing okay with the colon cancer. Have you been tested for lyme? The tests are not very accurate.. what are your symptoms including GI and other?

Right now my symptoms include severe leg pain, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, heart palps, migratory joint pain, dizziness, insomnia, swollen lymph node, neck pain and stiffness.

I HIGHLY suggest seeing a lyme literate doctor. They will be able to assess your full medical history and decide if an antibiotic treatment may be a good idea. If you are in NY I can suggest someone, if not, there are many online support groups for lyme where you can ask for lyme docs and ppl will give you lists in your area.

Thanks for seeking me out.
