Doctors have been telling me for the last many years that I have IBS. I myself am doubtful about it as my symptoms are not exactly the same as seen for IBS on the computer.
My problem is that complete emptying of intestine does not take place in the morning. With the result, I do feel alright till about noon time but after that bloating/ gases appear with pressure downwards. I feel alright if intestine gets partially empty in the evening as well otherwise I do feel considerable discomfort. It greatly helps if I take fibre like Ispagol but if I take it continuously for more that 2 days I get blisters in my mouth despite taking a lot of water.Tests have been showing no serious abnormality.
The above problem at my age of above 70 is a normal complaint, as I have learnt.
Now can any one tell me if it is IBS ? If so, any suggestions to tackle this problem?

The thing is that IBS isn't one set of symptoms. When the doctor runs tests and can't find anything, then it's decided that you have IBS. Based on your description, you have constipation. Is there anything else going on that you didn't mention?

Have you tired any other fibre supplements? They don't all work equally well for everyone. Prunes are also regularly suggested. Do you drink a cup of coffee in the morning? A hot drink then (esp coffee) is known for getting things moving.

    Thanks for your response.

A senior Specialist told me here that when Docs cann't find any thing, they say it is IBS. You are absolutely alright when you say the same thing. I do take two cups of tea after one hours walk early in the morning which certainly has very conducive effect overall thus enabling me to be pretty active at my advanced age.
I wonder if in my case, it can be called constipation as the stool is not hard as happens in typical constipation. I do try various fibres but without any positive response except Ispaghul which mentioned earlier. I am soon getting another fibre 'Metamucil' which is supposed to be better. Let us hope it works.

Once again thanks and wishing you the best.
