Gram-positive? What does that mean?

I recently visited the doctor and he said I possibly have diarrhea prominent IBS.
After many tests, upon my revisit, he said that most people have gram-negative bacteria in their bowels and I have gram-positive but said it makes no sense because I haven't been taking antibiotics.
I guess my questions is, what does that mean? What does gram-positive mean and what else should I know?
