These conditions are not mutually exclusive. We have found that most IBS symptoms are in fact caused by bacteria in the small intestine.

Yudaman23, I'm not sure you can say that most IBS symptoms are caused by bacteria in the intestinal tract. There may be a few or many causes of IBS. A recent suggestion was that children with "IBS-like" symptoms be screened for celiac disease. That is certainly not caused by bacteria. It's also possible that adults should also be screened for celiac disease or non-celiac-gluten-sensitivity, too, since that seems to be turning up more and more.

Yes, SIBO may produce a subset of IBS problems, but not all.
